World War I diary of Sergeant William Blue

Sergeant William Blue was assistant band leader of the 350th Field Artillery Band, 92nd Division, one of two Black infantry divisions that served in World War I. In this diary, he wrote about his enlistment at Jefferson Barracks, his service in France, and moments that shaped the lives of Black St. Louisans. His diary mentions concerts that boosted spirits during difficult times. Writing of a performance in France, Blue noted, “Every concert was received with continuous applause until we gave the last number.”
