Souvenir spoon featuring a locket

According to the donor, this silver locket spoon was presented to guests at a special dinner for sponsors of the 1904 World’s Fair. When a small release lever on the shield-shaped locket is pressed, the cover springs open to reveal a small photographic portrait of David R. Francis. In addition to serving as president of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition Company, Francis served many roles over his lifetime, including mayor of St. Louis, governor of Missouri, US secretary of the interior, and US ambassador to Russia.
