Medical procedure chair used by Dr. Uhlemeyer

This chair was sleek and modern when it first hit the market around 1920. Produced by A. S. Aloe Company, a St. Louis–based medical supply manufacturer and distributor, the chair’s arms were designed to swivel, giving ear, nose, and throat doctors easy access to their patients. The back and padded headrest could recline, and the chrome surfaces were believed to promote sanitation. The added rinse basin facilitated physicians’ work.
