Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?
Alice Shivers Hudson (1916–2001) was a Black artist who was well known in the local arts community. Largely self taught, she exhibited widely from 1975 to shortly before her death. A graduate of Sumner High School, she earned a master of arts in counseling from Washington University in St. Louis. Though she spent most of her career in nursing as a practitioner and teacher and founded the the Black Nurses Association, Hudson never abandoned her art: She was a member of the St. Louis Artists’ Guild and won numerous awards for her work.
