Charles Lindbergh’s flight suit
Charles Lindbergh was so concerned about weight on board the Spirit of St. Louis that he even inquired about the weight of the flight suit he purchased for the trip. A telegram he received from Spalding Brothers shows the suit weighed 9 pounds. Realizing that he might make history in this flight suit, Lindbergh wrote these words under its collar, “Worn on the following flights San Diego–St. Louis, St. Louis–New York, New York–Paris.” His signature below the inscription made it all official.
