Ted Drewes uniform

Ted Drewes Sr. bought his first frozen custard machine in 1929 after noticing the popularity of the treat while in Florida. He opened his first St. Louis store on Natural Bridge and Goodfellow in 1930, and the following year he added a second stand on South Grand Boulevard. In 1941, Drewes found property for a third store on Chippewa Street, the main Route 66 alignment through St. Louis. Drewes knew the location was prime for travelers, and he was right: The Chippewa store is famous among Route 66 tourists to this day.
