The Lu-Wows, Dream Bubbles
Musicians Lucy Rhinehart and Helen Montgomery likely met on the USO camp show circuit after the end of World War II and built a life together near Belleville, Illinois. Rhinehart became a music teacher, and Montgomery worked for the post office. They also formed a musical duo, the Lu-Wows. With Rhinehart on trumpet and Montgomery on drums, the Lu-Wows played in restaurants and hotels around the metro area in the 1950s–1970s. While they were lifelong partners, they never felt comfortable being their authentic selves in public and often told people that they were sisters.
