Performance outfit worn by the Welders
The Welders were one of the first punk bands in St. Louis, active from 1975 to 1981. There were seven girls in the Welders across the band’s run: Stephanie von Drasek (vocals), Jane Fujimoto (drums), Kelly “Rusty” Draper (guitar), Caroline Fujimoto (bass), Colleen Cowan O’Sullivan (vocals), Lyla Turner (drums), and Julie Benz (guitar). Despite the male-dominated nature of the early punk rock scene, the teens created a space for themselves and their boundary-pushing sound. The Welders’ cool confidence was on full display in their song lyrics, attitude, and above all, clothing.
