Bob Damron’s Address Book

After World War II ended, gay and lesbian travelers in the 1960s had to plan their journeys wisely, ensuring they could find safe places to stay and eat without fear of judgment, abuse, or arrest. Bob Damron, a businessman who traveled often, thought the gay and lesbian community could use a guide to friendly places throughout the country. In 1964, he published Bob Damron’s Address Book. The book was small, made to fit discreetly in the palm of one’s hand, but the content was extensive. Damron had personally visited each location he listed, adding credibility to his recommendations.
